Patriots Brave and Bold

Green and gold—the colors chosen by some of our earliest Patriots in the late 1960s—honor our student-focused roots. This bold palette signifies our confidence and standing as a rising national leader in higher education.

Primary Colors

George Mason Green and George Mason Gold are our university colors. These colors should be the dominant color on any piece carrying the George Mason brand. Tints of the primary colors may be used as accents, but may not replace George Mason Green and George Mason Gold (at full saturation) as the primary colors on branded materials.

Accent Colors

Accent colors are for emphasis only. Use them sparingly to highlight small details or key information. Accent colors may not replace George Mason Green or Gold, may not be used as backgrounds or product colors, and may not be tinted or softened. In every layout, green or gold must be the dominant color, with accent colors clearly secondary and limited in use.

If accent colors stand out more than green or gold, they’re being overused.

Gradients

Gradients may be used as accents in designs but may not replace George Mason Green and Gold as the dominant color of branded materials. Allowed gradient color combinations are:

  • George Mason Green to George Mason Gold
  • George Mason Green to Logo Black
  • George Mason Green to white
  • George Mason Gold to white

Using Color in Infographics

When using color in infographics, use the primary colors first, then the accent colors. Use tints only after exhausting the primary and secondary color palettes.

Approved Color Combinations for Large Text

These color combinations may be used as large text (such as headlines and callouts), graphical objects, and user interface components (buttons, borders, etc.).

  • Black on gold
  • White on any primary or accent color (except white on gold)
  • Any primary or accent color on white (except gold on white)
  • Green on white or gold
  • Gold on green, black, or navy

Approved Color Combinations for Normal Text

Black text on a white background is preferred for large blocks of text. Other color combinations that may be used for body copy are as follows.

  • Black text on gold background
  • Gold text on black background
  • White text on black or green background
  • Green text on white background
